Falls from slips and trips cause significant injuries to New Zealanders each year.

100% New Zealand independently owned, Floor Testing Services undertake the testing of existing surfaces  to accurately measure slip resistance compliance against the New Zealand Building Code requirements.

Our clients include the owners of public buildings as well as private and commercial property owners nationwide who engage us to assess their building’s level of Building Code compliance and level of slip risk.

This testing has become increasingly prominent with the impending introduction of The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Health and Safety reform, the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Our test results establish the coefficient of friction which can be compared specifically to NZBC Acceptable Solution D1/AS1 Access Routes considering public access areas, their surfaces and their acceptable slip resistance.  The results from testing also correlate with AS/NZS 4663:2004 Slip resistance measurement of existing pedestrian surfaces which will provide comfort to our client’s insurers.

Testing is determined following an assessment of the premises to identify potential areas of slip risk. The test equipment we use onsite incorporates the latest digital technology and is easily portable, stepping ahead of the more traditional method of pendulum testing. This allows for unobtrusive testing and minimum impact to our Client's business.

The digital readings provide accurate results and following interpretation and analysis a clear concise report can be provided.  Our findings also inform the suggestion of any practical remedial measures to address and manage areas of slip risk, such as:

  • Increased or alternative maintenance strategies.

  • Additional design features.

  • Supplementary floor treatments.

  • Administrative controls.

  • Advice on personal protective equipment that may be required.
